Scale 1:48

This was my third Revell model in the Apollo 40th Anniversary range. It had a skill level of 3 but I found it to be more difficult than the Astronaut model which is rated 4. The model detail itself is quite close to the real thing considering the odd shape of the LM. The Revell paint scheme however is nothing like that of the real Eagle and I have attempted to paint the model closer to the actual colours. The gold foil in the kit was a nice touch but again the instructions tell you to cover the entire bottom stage in the foil which again is not accurate. I also chose not to cover the legs in the foil and instead painted them using gold, silver and orange to mimic the foil covers of the real thing. I did put gold foil on the feet together with gold and anthracite paint. Nice features on the model are the retractable legs and the removable ascent stage, although the detail on the ascent stage engine could have been a little better. Overall a nice model to make and with the base board, Astronaut and flag, the finished models is a good representation of the LM on the moon.
