Scale 1:8

My first model from the 40th Anniversary Apollo range. I am an occasional modeler and have not made any models for a good number of years, but I fancied having another go and the Apollo range was something I was interested in. I started with this one as I thought it looked the easiest and indeed it was fairly simple. There are not many parts to this model and building it didn’t take too long (Although I am unfortunately not a patient modeler!). Although the model is in white plastic, I decided to paint it in White Matt which made all the difference. The hardest part was painting the face which is moulded into the helmet. It would have been nicer to have a separate helmet and a complete head. The model depicts the first step on the moon and as such the leg of the Eagle Lunar Module is also in the kit. Instead of painting this gold as stated in the instructions, I decided to cover it in silver foil and fixed this to the leg with cable ties to loosely copy the bands which held on the foil covers on the real thing. The model itself is quite accurate, including the Hasselblad camera. The only thing which I felt was not particularly good was the shape of the helmet visor which seems too deep.
